DECENTRALISED COOPERATION BETWEEN CAMEROON AND TURKIYE

As part of the actions undertaken by the Diplomatic Post geared at strengthening the cooperation between Cameroon and Turkiye in the domain of Decentralised Cooperation, H.E. VICTOR TCHATCHOUWO, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cameroon to Turkiye, accompanied for the occasion by Mr. NKWAH AKONGNWI NGWA and Mrs. MBOUKEM NJAHEU CHRISTIANE, was received in audience by Mr YÜCEL YILMAZ, President of the Union of Municipalities of Turkiye (TBB), on Thursday 26 October 2023 at the TBB headquarters.

This important meeting focused on monitoring decentralised cooperation and strengthening the partnership between the local authorities of the two countries in order to add value to the efforts made by local authorities and the Cameroonian Government in promoting local development.

The two parties agreed on the need to complete the process of signing a legal framework governing Decentralised Cooperation between Cameroon and Turkiye.

As a reminder, the Union of Municipalities of Turkiye (TBB) is the only National Union of Local Governments with a mandate to represent its member municipalities at national and international levels. As of date, the TBB comprises 1389 municipalities in Turkiye, including 30 metropolitan municipalities, 51 provincial municipalities, 519 district metropolitan municipalities, 403 district municipalities and 386 urban municipalities.
